Human Resources Manager - Flint Institute of Arts

Pay: $60-$70K

Position Summary:

The Human Resources (HR) Manager oversees all HR functions within the organization to support organization goals. This includes managing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance, training, compensation, and organizational culture.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and update HR policies and procedures aligned with organizational goals.
  • Manage the full recruitment life cycle: job posting, sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
  • Oversee employee relations by addressing employee concerns, mediating conflicts, and fostering positive communication between staff and management.
  • Develop job descriptions for key positions within the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal wage and labor laws, including workplace safety regulations.
  • Design and manage employee training and development programs to improve skills and career growth.
  • Responsible for entering new employees, salary information, and salary changes into the payroll system; assists employees with payroll and timekeeping issues.
  • Analyze, prepare, and input payroll data, using an automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll.
  • Administer workman’s compensation program and relevant documentation.
  • Administer compensation and benefits programs, including salary reviews, bonuses, and benefits enrollment.
  • Lead performance management processes, including goal setting, evaluations, and improvement plans.
  • Maintain accurate and centralized employee records and HR data systems.
  • Manage employee well-being initiatives and organizational culture, including planning employee engagement events and programs.
  • Serve as a liaison between department heads, management, external agencies, and employees on HR matters.
  • Oversee disciplinary actions, investigations, exit interviews, and terminations according to organization policies and legal standards.
  • Monitor workforce planning and succession strategies to meet current and future talent needs.
  • Schedule all-staff meetings and prepare agendas in collaboration with Executive Director and department heads.
  • Manage assigned employee cross-departmental committees to promote engagement in Strategic Plan initiatives.
  • Apply FIA values to interactions to support a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and talent management.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes, operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines as required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and ADP Payroll.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and communication skills to work across departments.
  • Capability to handle sensitive and confidential employee matters professionally.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; advanced degree or HR certification preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in HR management.
  • Additional years of experience may be substituted for educational requirement.
