Our Mission

Every day, we work hard to provide a hands-on, “Play and Learn” environment that engages and motivates children to use their curiosity and creativity to learn about the wonders of our world.

Position Overview

The Museum Education Intern is an energetic and enthusiastic team member who will help provide play-based educational programs for children ages infancy through ten-years old. This internship is unpaid.

Duration

MMCM offers a flexible schedule. Interns can work up to 30 weeks full time. Prefer a minimum of two months and 10 to 15 hours a week.

Primary Museum Education Intern Responsibilities

  • Help with all MMCM educational programs including field trips, day camps, school outreach lessons, and toddler time activities
  • Create original educational programming for our guests (weekend activities, camp activities, lessons, experiments)
  • Conduct lessons in the museum and at outreach programs in schools
  • Help revise and adapt educational lessons for different school grades and learning levels
  • Assist with coordinating and evaluating MMCM educational programs
  • Assist with the outreach and promotion of MMCM educational programs to Great Lakes Bay Region daycares, preschools and elementary schools

Museum Education Intern Qualifications

  • Majoring or minoring in education, museum studies, family and child development or other education-based areas of study at a college or university
  • Energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards
  • Prior experience working with young children and/or families
  • A persistent self-motivator who can work with minimal oversight and achieve goals on a consistent basis
  • A genuine passion for working with children from infancy through ten-years old
  • Comfort with speaking and interacting with large groups
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as collaborative skills to work with museum staff and teachers
  • Ability to manage people and projects in a creative and fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to create an atmosphere of teamwork and positive energy among staff and volunteers
