MMA Ask An Expert:
America 250 Through a Native Lens with Eric Hemenway

Tuesday, May 27
11 am

As the United States of America prepares for it’s 250th birthday, there is no better time to reflect on what has happened on this continent in the last two and a half centuries. Particularly, for the first people here, the tribal nations. This program will discuss ideas on how to incorporate the native narrative in your America 250 commemoration programs, events, and exhibits, how to navigate political turmoil surrounding these topics, and offer real examples of how Eric Hemenway, our host, has worked with institutions all over Michigan to tell these stories.

This program will be led by Eric Hemenway, Director of the Archives and Records department for the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians.

Location: The MMA Zoom account. You can join via phone or the internet. Instructions for connecting will be sent with your registration confirmation.

The session will be facilitated by Natalie Pantelis, MMA Program Coordinator.

The Michigan Museums Association is supported in part by an award from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council
