The Visitor Services Associate is a part-time, non-exempt position with up to 20 hours per week. The pay rate is $15.00/hour. Workdays begin at 9:45 am and end at 5:15 pm Tuesday-Saturday, and 11:45 am to 5:15 pm Sunday; however, flexibility will sometimes be required for special events. The shifts for the position are negotiable Tuesday-Saturday, but a full shift on Sunday is required. The responsibilities described below are key responsibilities of the position, but not exclusive responsibilities of the position.

The executive director supervises this position; however, the office manager will often provide instruction and direction to the employee.

Responsibilities

  • Opens and closes the museum building. Prepares the museum exhibits for visitors upon opening and shuts down exhibits when the museum closes.
  • Welcomes visitors at the admission desk, answers any questions, and ensures visitors have an overall positive experience.
  • Handles admission ticket sales and museum store sales. Ensures balanced cash drawer and accurate documentation and reports at the close of the shift.
  • Serves as a tour guide for scheduled public tours and for booked group tours.
  • Assists the Office Manager in maintaining the museum store and office area.
  • Assist in housekeeping: sweeping floors, dusting and cleaning exhibits, cleaning bathrooms, and emptying trash cans.
  • Answers the main office phone and directs callers to the appropriate staff member.
  • Occasionally staffs the museum during special events and building rentals.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the museum’s programming.
  • Promotes museum memberships, programs, and special events through interactions with visitors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Note on dress code:

Visitor Associates will be issued a museum-branded shirt to wear. Business casual clothing, along with a museum name badge, is also acceptable. Examples of business casual attire: dress shirts, blouses, polo shirts, and long-sleeve sweaters. Clothing should not have writing on it. Jeans without tears, wear, frays, stains, etc., are permitted if they are professional in appearance. Tattoos featuring inappropriate content for an audience of all ages need to be covered. If you are wondering if a clothing article would be appropriate or not, please ask your supervisor.
