Position Description

As a member of Ford House’s Material Culture team, the Historical Housekeeping Associate (Housekeeper) cleans and maintains historical interior elements and spaces of buildings at Ford House to ensure a pleasant experience for visitors and a safe, clean environment for the historical resources.

This is an entry-level position and previous experience is not required. Training for all essential duties and responsibilities will be taught. The list of responsibilities below is intended to describe the typical work a person would do in the position. It is not a checklist of skills or experience required before starting in the role. To ensure they can successfully complete the tasks and responsibilities listed below, the Housekeeper will work closely with their supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of housekeeping tasks including trash removal; vacuuming; washing windows; cleaning restrooms; mopping, buffing, and waxing floors; dusting walls, screens, furniture; and other areas and items as needed using proper techniques and in accordance with Ford House historical building interiors care policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for attention to detail and consistent and thorough cleaning of historical building interiors.
  • Maintain the historical buildings to ensure all areas are clean and free from slip, trip, and fall hazards.
  • Cleaning areas immediately that are soiled due to accidents.
  • Notify supervisor of any accidents, damages, or problems while working including maintenance needs.
  • Maintains work area and equipment in clean and orderly conditions.
  • Maintain stock of routine cleaning and household supplies.
  • Adhere strictly to rules regarding health and safety and be aware of any Ford House-related practices.
  • Works with members of the Material Culture team as needed on large-scale projects that require more than one person.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Ability to walk up and down stairs while carrying objects weighing up to 55 pounds; to bend, stoop, and lift to move materials; to push/pull, lift and carry up to 55 pounds on a regular basis; and to reach above and below shoulder height. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Ability to use a computer terminal for project tracking and communications. Tolerance of dust and mildew (protective gear provided). The nature of the position requires the ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments in varying temperatures and weather conditions.

Uniform Requirements

This position does require maintaining a standard dress code of wearing all black and presenting a clean, professional appearance. Uniform shirts are provided but should be maintained by the individual.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of background and credit check.
  • Must be able to work 28 hours per week.
  • Specific days of the week are TBD, but must be able to work weekends, and some nights and holidays.
  • Ability to take initiative, exercise good judgement, and follow instructions.
  • Learn to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from all sectors of the community and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Must be discreet about Ford House’s collections and business and maintain confidentiality of Ford House’s information.

Work Schedule

  • This is a part-time position.
  • Must be able to work weekends and some holidays and evenings.
