TITLE: Historic Sites Maintenance Assistant

REPORTS TO: Historic Sites Building & Grounds Supervisor

STATUS: Full time/Non-Exempt

SALARY: $16.00

Position Summary:

The Lakeshore Museum Center is a campus of museums consisting of nine buildings that comprise three distinct visitor sites. The sites are the Muskegon Historic Sites, The Muskegon Museum of History & Science, and the Muskegon Museum of Business and Industry.

The Historic Sites Maintenance Staff is responsible for the cleaning, care, and upkeep of the Muskegon Historic Sites that consist of the Hackley and Hume Historic Site, Fire Barn Museum, and Scolnik House of the Depression Era. The Historic Sites Maintenance Assistant will also assist with special projects and routine work at all of the Museum’s sites.

Basic Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Cooperative nature, able to work well within a team structure
  • Moderate to heavy lifting – 30-50 pounds
  •  A valid driver’s license

Essential Requirements

1.      Custodial Work

    • Daily and Routine Cleaning: bathroom cleaning, mopping, vacuuming, dusting
    • Seasonal Maintenance: Cutting grass, weed whacking, edging sidewalks, sprinkler repair, leaf removal, snow removal, window washing
2.      General Maintenance Needs
    • Painting: Required at our Historic sites using ladders, lifts, and scaffolding
    • Ability to climb ladders, deal with heights, and crawling/walking in tight spaces
    • Operate and help maintain museum-owned equipment: Van, Lift, plow truck, snow blowers, and lawn maintenance equipment
    • Required to work some weekends in winter for snow removal or other events

3.      Safety

    • Respond to alarm calls at the all sites when requested
    • Complete assigned eSafety training courses and participate in additional training as necessary.
    • Report any issue to supervisor immediately.

  • Experience with historic restoration and preservation
  • Drywall finishing and plaster work
  • HVAC
  • Plumbing

Compensation: Full time position with a benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement contributions, vacation, and sick leave.
