Reports to: Boyne Heritage Center Board of Directors

Location: 319 N Lake St, Boyne City, MI, 49712

Boyne Heritage Center (BHC) is charged with curating and displaying the historical collection for the City of Boyne City. This work is encouraged through the use of an approved Collections Agreement by and between the BHC and the City of Boyne City. The Boyne Heritage Center is a nonprofit interpretive center in development, poised to become a flagship family attraction and historical hub for the greater Boyne area in Northern Michigan. We recognize the passion our community has for its heritage. It is our mission to be the expressive living voice and collective memory of those who came before us and those who will come after us — stewards of artifacts and an engaged, collaborative historical hub for our region.

Position Summary:

The BHC Executive Director (ED) is responsible for:

  • Overall leadership, management, and implementation of the strategic direction, fund development and budget of the BHC.
  • Management of communications and PR with support of the BHC Board.
  • Managing the BHC office.
  • Handling all aspects of the financials.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of BHC.
  • Establishing and maintaining a relationship with the City.

Hours:

This is a new full time, 12-month position with some work-from-home flexibility. Salary funding is currently guaranteed for one year. Our goal is to procure funding for continued full-time employment beyond year one. Grow as we grow!

Compensation:

$50,000 salary for the 12-month period plus a $10,000 cash allowance for self health insurance. Total compensation package $60,000.

  • Experienced and creative with new ideas and a fresh approach to the board and the BHC.
  • A positive and energetic source for the long-term economic vitality and preservation of artifacts for the Boyne Heritage Center.
  • Advocate for BHC throughout the community — providing information, hosting events that provide economic activity and detailing accomplishments to business owners, city officials, and other interested persons.
  • Core commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as the visible contact person for BHC. Applicant must be available for meetings and events within our service area.
  2. Understand and utilize financial management tools and PastPerfect software.
  3. Drive development and strengthening of the BHC’s financial position by researching and pursuing grant opportunities, private donations, BHC membership development, etc.
  4. Manage and oversee the execution of grant monies and funded projects within the defined requirements of the awards.
  5. Be well-versed in any and all master plans or strategic planning/long-term planning documents that might influence the BHC.
  6. Develop and oversee all avenues of promotion and marketing for the BHC, including but not limited to the website, social media and other appropriate media.
  7. Work with BHC Board with ideas for public events, fundraising and programs, with a special emphasis on live demonstrations which are important to our major donor. (The Board will be responsible for the planning and implementation of these events).
  8. Work with various committees to develop and implement annual work plans upon which the program will operate.
  9. Coordinate budget with board goals to accomplish activities and improvements for BHC.
  10. Attend all BHC Board meetings and events.
  11. Attend City Commission meetings as needed.
  12. Manage recruitment, evaluation, and retention of volunteers as needed.
  13. Be familiar with persons and groups directly or indirectly involved in the area including but not limited to the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce and Boyne City Main Street.
  14. Other duties as assigned from time to time.
