Processing Archivist, The Henry Ford

The Henry Ford-America's Greatest History Attraction, has a full time position for a Processing Archivist. Position is responsible for the arrangement and description of archives and manuscripts. Principal responsibility is the processing of record groups and series of the Ford Motor Company Historical Records, including preparation of Encoded Archival Description (EAD) compliant finding aids, preparing USMARC catalog records for archival collections, and delivering information about the material in digital form; also responsible for providing reference service for these records. Under the terms of a unique collaborative agreement with Ford Motor Company, basic reference service for Ford business inquiries have become the responsibility of the Museum's Research Center. The Processing Archivist will also be responsible for assisting the Reference Archivists to conduct research in primary and secondary sources to respond quickly and accurately to reference requests from Ford Motor Company. Maintains high level of expertise and participates in appropriate professional organizations. Requires graduate degree in archival studies, or ALA-accredited MLS or master's degree in history (or other relevant subject) with formal coursework or training in archival management and theory. Experience cataloging archival collections in MARC, following DACS; experience creating archival finding aids that meet current professional best practices. Experience providing reference service in a research, academic, or corporate library or archives. Familiarity with institutional or corporate records. Knowledge of standard collection holdings maintenance methods in processing, handling, and care of archival materials. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, and familiar with Microsoft Access (or similar products). Must communicate effectively with staff and researchers orally, one-to-one and in groups; must write clearly, concisely, and accurately. Experience with OCLC and OPAC cataloging desired. Must be able to work with sensitive material and maintain confidentiality.
