Interpretive Writing for Museum Exhibits
and Outdoor Interpretive Panels

June 29

Hosted by
Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research
Bloomfield Hills

This one-day workshop on Interpretive Writing will focus on integrating Tilden's Interpretive Principles (Provoke, Relate and Reveal), interpretive themes and outcome based objectives for text development with a focus on Museum Exhibit Label Copy.  We will also look at research in label copy psychology, the use of intangibles in copy development, and as time allows, how to do pre-test evaluation of copy before offering it for visitors to engage with. The workshop will also look at other interpretive media where interpretive writing techniques will be very useful including its use for blogs, web site text and printed media.  We'll do some "hands-on" writing activities and interpretive writing reference materials will be provided for workshop participants as well.

The workshop will be led by John Veverka of John Veverka and Associates, a firm that specializes in Interpretive Master Planning and Interpretive Training courses and workshops. John has a strong academic interpretive background mixed with lots of field experience with 30 years of "doing" interpretive master planning and staff interpretive training as well as teaching university courses in interpretation.

Cost includes morning refreshments, lunch, and materials.
