Part Time Museum Assistant - Dearborn Historical Museum


HOURS:        Part-time, up to 28 hours per week, with primarily day shift hours on the weekdays. Regular weekend hours may be required. Evening and special event hours may be required on occasion.
An employee in this classification works under the direction of the Chief Curator or his/her designee. The employee in this classification assists with a variety of functions including exhibits, special events, archives research, and giving tours of the museum to the public.


  • Acts as museum’s public face and provides visitors with a good first impression through customer service skills and professional appearance
  • Uses City of Dearborn finance system to assist with Museum finances in collaboration with City of Dearborn finance department
  • Coordinates Museum’s volunteer program through recruitment, scheduling, and stewardship
  • Designs, evaluates, and oversees public programming and events including the Museum’s school program for roughly 1,500 local second-graders annually
  • Acts as a docent and performs tours of museum buildings for members of the public.
  • Maintains Museum and Museum Guild schedules and calendars
  • Produces content for Museum social media and e-newsletter
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

Some combination of experience related to office management, public programming, and volunteer management required. Must have minimum 1-3 years in museums or similar institutions.
