STATUS:  Full Time/Non Exempt

SUPERVISES:  Weekend Supervision

SALARY: $14.00/hour

Lakeshore Museum Center Mission: The Mission of the Lakeshore Museum Center is to tell the story of Muskegon County by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history of its people and natural environment.

Position Summary: This position assists in the programming and curatorial responsibilities at the Lakeshore Museum Center’s Historic Sites. The Historic Sites Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in programs for a wide variety of audiences including schools, tourists, and the public. This position is a supervisory position on weekends or when the Manager/Director are not on site.


 ·         Assist with training materials for the Historic Sites.
·         Inputs visitor tracking and reports numbers to Site Director.
·         Conduct surveys and tabulate data for analyzing.
·         Supervise Interpretive Staff Members and volunteers on weekends or when the Manager/Director are not on site.
·         Assist in implementation of programming that serves a variety of audiences, such as schools, tourists, and local visitors utilizing the five historic buildings.
·         Assist in orientation and training for new Interpretive Staff and Volunteers.
·         Help lead school and group tours in the off-season and when needed within the season.
·         Scheduling school/group tours.
·         Assist with bi-annual Historic Site inventory.
·         Assist in site annual deep cleaning and resetting for the season.
·         Monitor site security and report potential problems to Site Director/Manager.
·         Create content and manage the Historic Sites Instagram page.
·         Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Education:

·         Bachelor’s degree preferred.
·         Preferred 1 year museum experience.
·         Supervisory experience preferred.
·         Creative, strategic thinker with proven project management skills.
·         Detail Orientated.
·         Good written/oral communication
·         Familiar with Microsoft Office Suites
·         Strong organizational skills, multi-tasking, and problem-solving qualities.
·         Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
·         Responsible, reliable, and able to use good judgment.
·         Friendly, courteous, empathetic, and engaging presence with all visitors, staff, and volunteers.
·         Strong work ethic.
·         Cooperative in nature, able to work well within a team structure.

Physical Demands:

·         Ascends and descends stairs regularly when providing tours.
·         50 lb. weight limit.
