Grants Officer/Development


Full-time, Exempt

Salary, commensurate with experience


The Grants Officer is responsible for the preparation of formal written reports and proposals submitted to individual, corporate, foundation and government funding sources, as assigned by the Associate Director, Grants.  Performs related work as required.


  • Prepare and submit reports to funders as required or appropriate, working with project directors and Accounting as needed to document progress and outcomes of grant-funded projects.
  • Work with museum staff to prepare formal written proposals submitted to government, corporate and foundation funding sources, as well as occasional written proposals to individual donors.
  • Prepare agendas, reports and discussion materials for monthly cross-departmental meetings to review museum-wide grant activity. 
  • Manage and nurture relationships as appropriate with representatives of funding sources through strategic personal contacts and communications.
  • Maintain a portfolio of assigned constituents and participate in the department moves managements meetings and process.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the moves management module of Raiser’s Edge through the input of contact data for the portfolio of donors and donor prospects managed by this position.
  • Prepare special correspondence for the portfolio of donors and donor prospects managed by this position.
  • Participate as a part of the development team in a collegial fashion and maintain good relationships with all those who help facilitate the effective conduct of this position.
  • Carry out such other activities as assigned by the Associate Director, Grants; Director of Development Operations; or Vice President of Development.                                                           


  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of corporate, foundation and governmental funding sources
  • Five (5) or more years of previous experience in proposal preparation
  • Competency with budget management, financial analysis, and personal computer as well as large computer database use.
  • Strong organizational and conceptual skills, with an eye to detail
  • The ability to work effectively with time deadlines
  • The ability to edit and produce formal written funding proposals
  • The ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form
  • The ability to work on a team
  • Familiarity with the museum environment
