A regular, full-time, exempt position that reports to, and is supervised by, the Executive Director. This position description is not intended to be all-inclusive, but only to identify the major responsibilities and qualifications of the job. The incumbent may be requested to perform additional job-related tasks other than those listed below.
The Education Outreach Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs using inquiry based learning, interactive models, multi-sensory approaches, and other innovative techniques effective in museum environments and beneficial to multiple level school groups and adult/lifelong learners. Starting annual salary range based on experience: $27K-$29K plus benefits.
Work to establish relationships with area school districts, administrators, teachers, etc.
Develop curriculum and Museum activities that align with Michigan State Benchmarks with a focus on Northeast Michigan’s unique cultural heritage.
Recruit and train volunteers to assist with education programs and special events
Assist in scheduling and conducting all fieldtrips. Make sure all fieldtrips are listed on the Museum calendar
Work with other local educational institutions to strengthen the Museum’s outreach and capacity
Evaluate programs and provide qualitative and quantitative data
Contribute to the development of interpretative signage and materials for exhibits.
Keep abreast of professional and technical knowledge relating to best practices in Museum education outreach
Serve on the Education Committee
Assist with developing annual events - Log Cabin Day, Fall Harvest Fossil Fest, Season of Light, etc. Oversee all necessary details to ensure each event is successful, including volunteer training, marketing, purchasing supplies, etc.
Assist Museum colleagues as needed and/or requested to fulfill the mission and purpose of the Museum
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a discipline compatible to performing the duties of a museum Education Outreach Coordinator
Proficient in software programs such as, Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and Social Media
Ability to understand the Michigan State Curriculum Benchmarks for creating and implementing field trip experiences
A thorough understanding of effective informal educational techniques, interactive education, audience evaluation, and learning styles; ability to implement these skills to create an excellent learning experience for visitors of all ages and abilities in art, history, and science.
Excellent verbal and writing skills; Demonstrates the ability to comfortably speak in public.
Excellent organizational and administrative skills
High level of self-motivation, excellent attention to detail, able to follow through
Good supervisory skills and the personality to work cheerfully and respectfully with others in a team approach.
Willing to work occasional weekends and evenings as job demands
