Connecting to Collections

A few years ago, Michigan Museums Association received an IMLS (Institute for Museum & Library Service) grant so that we could assess the state of Michigan’s collections in museums and libraries.
Surveys were sent to over 1000 libraries and museums asking questions about how collections are cared for and managed.

This pdf is a summary report of the responses from respondents regarding their collections successes and challenges. Ultimately, this information will be used to convince funders that Michigan’s institutions need resources to help preserve and
share their collections.

We hope you will read this report and see the state of our stewardship of the state’s treasures. Despite some economic challenges in recent years we are doing a great job in caring for collections. There’s still more to do!

Michigan Museums Association will keep you informed about opportunities for assistance in caring for your collections.

This grant was generous supported by  Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs (MCACA), IMLS, and Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University.
