MMA Seeks Part-Time Director

The Michigan Museums Association, a 59-year-old organization, seeks a part-time director. The director will primarily focus on reinvigorating relationships with the state’s museums and other cultural organizations. Additionally, this person will assist the Board of Directors with strengthening our financial situation.

The successful candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Keen knowledge of the museum community in Michigan
  • Outgoing and highly skilled public speaker
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to make meaningful connections with the state’s museums and cultural organizations through personal calls, travel, and electronic media
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills--ability to work with a wide range of museums, funders, partners, and members
  • A self-starter who can push projects and ideas forward
  • Good organization skills
  • Familiarity with basic accounting

This is a part-time position and includes 20 hours work per week plus mileage for travel to museums and board meetings. This person will work from home and must establish a home office.

2012 Annual Conference

We are planning a terrific conference for 2012!  Our Annual Conference will be held in Muskegon from September 26-28; and we’ll help the Muskegon Museum of Art and the Lakeshore Museum Center celebrate major anniversaries. 
 
Here’s this year’s theme -- Innovate, Adapt, Succeed:  Celebrating What Works in Michigan’s Museums.  We’re looking for session chairs, content providers, volunteers, etc.  Take a look at the Call for Participation for all the details.  Responses due by February 15!
